It is worth a trip to Yeadon just to marvel at the restoration which the Town Hall has gone through. It is not just a nip, tuck and a shot of Botox, but the full Dolly Parton. The effect is stunning both inside and out, the Town Hall that is, I am not sure that the Queen of Country has taken things quite that far. Anyway, you would be well advised to schedule your sightseeing trip to coincide with one of the great events happening throughout the spring and summer.
Live shows, though mainly music based, cover a range of genres with The Psychology of a Serial Killer – A Lecture with Jennifer Reece on 30th June, and, still on matters of the mind, Steve Holbrook, the UK’s top Clairvoyant on 9th June. But you knew I was going to say that didn’t you.
To mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee there is an all day Extravaganza on Thursday, 2nd June which is bound to be a great way to get the long weekend off to a flyer. Amongst the attractions there is Dean Michael from Black Lace with his band Restless, as I would be if I had to sing Agadoo on a regular basis. There is also Coco Davrose, Drag Queen DJ. I am not sure that is the kind of queen the day is for but each to their own. I wonder how they will look when they have been working for 70 years.
On to the music. There is a plethora of tribute Acts: 26th May has a show featuring multiple artists in Country Superstars Experience, 28th May sees Luther, a tribute to Mr Vandross, The late, great Meatloaf is remembered on 18th June with Hits Out of Hell – The Meatloaf Songbook, 23rd June sees Feeling Rumours, The Tributes Show to Fleetwood Mac, and Walk Like a Man, Frankie Valli on 9th July.
Music theme nights start on 25th March with Northern Live – Do I Love You, Rave On – the 1950s musical extravaganza on 1st April, a 1980s party night – The Wild Boys Return on 29th April. It is then back to the 50s on 24th June with Lipstick on Your Collar.
Other music is covered in Calendar Girls – The Musical which runs from 17th – 21st May, Saturday 23rd July sees an all-dayer with Nostalgia 90s Dance Reunion Presents K-Klass & Resident DJs. For something completely different there is the Below Deck Party with the Old Time Sailors on 27th May, make mine a pint of shanty! For something even more different on 30th April has P!ssed Up Panto – Cinderella for adults only. Oh no it isn’t – Oh yes it is!
If you like some refreshment with your tunes then you are in for a treat. From 14th – 17th April there are ABBA Dinner Shows in Fernando’s Greek Taverna. For those few nights Yeadon will become Santorini and the Town Hall transformed into a Taverna with starlit ceiling. There are welcome drinks, nibbles and a banquet whilst you enjoy the music of those super Swedes. A disco will continue until midnight.
Should you prefer ale and cider to ouzo, and a meal from Yeadon Burger Company to stuffed vine leaves then there is Yeadon’s Beer and Music Festival from 8th – 10th April. Cheers!
Whatever your taste, whether it is swaying with a sun tanned partner in a Greek Taverna to the music of ABBA, or singing shanties below deck with a load of old sailors, Yeadon Town Hall has got it covered.
