Well, I suppose that it had to happen sooner or later. That Leeds favourite, Bundobust, has taken the plunge into fake meat.
Up until now, the menu has been purely unprocessed plant-based ingredients which have been imaginatively used and cooked to perfection. From 7th January, however, they have teamed up with Meatless Farm to add a range of dishes designed to appeal to customers who need the taste and texture of meat without using animal products.
According to their website, Meatless Farm use peas, beans and other plants which they mill into a fine flour and mix with water and oils under enormous steam pressure. The strings of pure plant protein are then combined with natural ingredients and flavours before being formed into products like burgers, mince and sausages. They have also recently added ‘chicken’.

The dishes will include I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter Chicken, Keema Matar and Shami Kebabs. They will be available individually or as a Bundo Does Meat Combo for Two which will cost £31 and be served at Leeds, Manchester Piccadilly and Bundobust Brewery. Should you fancy a 0.5% beer with that, Brut Luxe, a collaboration with NoLo specialists Mash Gang, is an extra £4 for two halves.

If you want to try the ‘Meat’ Veganuary and the Dry January beer, they are available for a limited time so get your skates on. If you don’t then the normal menu will still be available for we purists.
Personally, I am having a ‘Skinter’ as my Yuletide credit card payment is due, so, if I do pop down for some pretend meat I might just have to pay with the chocolate coins I got in my Christmas stocking!
Happy New Year to you all.
