One of the lesser known gems in Leeds has announced its winter programme. This is not only a place where you can enjoy the works on display but can also get involved in workshops. On top of all that it is a great place to buy a unique Christmas present at a price which won’t break the bank.
The premises are situated underneath the Leeds Art Gallery on The Headrow and staffed by the most incredibly helpful people. Their Winter Show runs from 6th November until various dates in January and February depending on the artist involved. I must stress that the word artist covers all disciplines, not just painting, so there are ceramics, glass, jewellery, decorations etc, in fact, something for everybody.
The Winter Jewellery Show runs from 6th November until 29th January featuring pieces from some of the most talented jewellers in the UK including Amanda Coleman, Ananda Ungaphakorn, Caroline Draper Rachel Brown and many others. There are all styles from rustic to sleek and sophisticated.
In the Spotlight highlights artists in several genres who have been selected for their innovation in the medium in which they work. There is more jewellery, paper artworks and textiles. All stunning.
The Winter Print Exhibition – Wild is on until 19th February and features prints by Hester Cox and Niamh Geraghty-Morris. Each explores the environment in which they live and work, whether it be coast, moor, forest or riverside.
Finally we have a selection of bold, colourful ceramic works by Lorna Jackson Currie who is a regular exhibitor at The Craft Centre. These are statement pieces which are guaranteed to brighten up a post-pandemic winter day. You need to be quicker for this feature as it only runs from 6th November until 8th January.
Whatever your taste in the arts and contemporary craft there is bound to be something to interest you and provide inspiration to treat someone special to a one-off Christmas present, especially if that someone special is yourself!
