While we wait for summer, let’s have a look at what winter has in store for us. Now that I seem to have everybody’s programmes I am working my way through them over the next few days. They are in alphabetical order so as not to imply favouritism, sorry about that Yeadon Town Hall!
If you have had occasion to visit Water Lane recently you cannot help but be struck by the amount of construction work that is either taking place or has just finished, well, here is another for the collection.
Those people at Chow Down are building a Winter Village at Temple Arches to facilitate the events to be held there now that the nights, and temperatures, are falling fast. By the look of the plans they are soon going to need their own postcode!
The new structures include a two-storey bar and games room. The ground floor will be the bar with booths, live bands and headline DJs. Upstairs is going to be the Rooftop Curling Club. No, it isn’t a hairdresser, but a rink where you can challenge your friends and family to the game which has become so popular since our successes at the Winter Olympics. Beer pong and other games will also be available for your amusement.

Should you prefer something a little more sedate than sliding stones or throwing shapes, there will be fire pits, heaters and winter snugs to keep you warm, with a little help from mulled wine and cider.
Christmas Tipis will host Santa Breakfasts and a range of family activities on Sundays and a Chow Down Ski Lodge to provide comfy seating in a fully heated environment. The familiar pergola will be given a winter makeover with windbreaks, plants and additional heaters.
There will be several specials including après ski nights and drag and disco brunches.
As its name suggests, Chow Down is about food and, in addition to the roster of street food stalls, there will be permanent residences including Tortio which makes ‘proper’ tacos, mostly cooked over open flames, and Jimmy Macks.

Chow Down Winter Village opens on 11th November, 2021
